pool Rules & Regulations

 

I. Pool Season and Hours of Operation:


1. The pool officially opens on Memorial Day Weekend and closes Labor Day.

The pool is open Memorial Day through the remainder of the season. The membership will be notified of any exceptions. Any extended season will be determined in August.

* On Mondays, the clubhouse and Men’s and Ladies’ Locker Rooms will not be open! People at the pool must use the bathhouse facilities.

Time will be reserved for swim and diving team practices as determined by the Athletic Director.

2. The Pool may be closed during periods of bad weather or for other reasons as determined by the Pool Director or the General Manager.

3. LIGHTNING WARNING SYSTEM: Immediately following the fifteen (15) second blast, all swimmers are required to leave the swimming pools and deck area and take shelter. Safety protocol dictates that there are no exceptions to this rule. Violations of the rule may be followed by suspension of Club privileges. Sporting activities may resume after the three (3) five (5) second blasts (all clear) have been sounded indicating that it is safe to resume activities.

II. The Pool Director:

The Pool Director reports to the General Manager and is in charge of the operation of the pool area and all pool personnel. All swimming and diving activities will be under the direct supervision of the Pool Director and the designated lifeguards on duty, who will have the authority to direct and oversee all swimmers.

III. Chairperson of the Pool Committee:

The Chairperson of the Pool Committee coordinates pool area activities with the Pool Director and the Chairperson of the Athletic Committee. All suggestions regarding the pool area, locker facilities and playground area shall be made in writing to the Chairperson of the Pool Committee.

IV. Registration

 All Members, their families, and guests, shall register their attendance for each day the pool is utilized. The Pool Registry Book is located at the Lifeguard’s Table at the main entrance to the pool, opposite the snack bar.

V. General Rules

  1. The pool is operated in compliance with State Health Department Regulations which are incorporated and included in our Rules and Regulations for the use of the pool area.
  2. All persons known or suspected of being afflicted with communicable diseases, or with a cold, cough or inflamed eyes or any skin disease, or wearing bandages, may not enter the pool.
  3. Before entering the pool, each person must take a soap shower. Those having used an oil or any ointment must shower again before entering the pool.
  4. Nothing shall be taken into the pool which could pollute the water or is hazardous to swimmers.
  5. Toys, balls and swimming aids such as flippers, masks, snorkels, or anything metallic shall not be allowed except upon approval of the Pool Director. “Swimmies” are not permitted, however, swimming aids for young children, such as “bubbles” will be allowed with proper adult supervision.
  6. Spouting of water, blowing the nose, or otherwise polluting the water is prohibited.
  7. No dogs or other animals will be allowed on Club property.
  8. Chewing gum is not allowed in the pools or on the pool deck.
  9. Food served at the snack bar shall be consumed in designated dining areas only. No food shall be brought into the pool area. Beverages may be served on the pool deck in plastic cups away from the pool edge. Use the containers provided for the disposal of refuse.
  10. Adult Members and their guests are not permitted to bring packaged foods or beverages (including alcoholic beverages) for consumption on Shorehaven property. “Picnicking” and coolers are not permitted.
  11. Individuals in bathing suit attire are not permitted to go outside the pool area except when entering the locker rooms which are available to individuals sixteen (16) years of age and older when wearing proper cover up and  footwear.
  12. Parking is not permitted in the basketball court area.
  13. Individuals utilizing the pool area are responsible for their belongings. The Club bears no responsibility for the loss or theft of personal items. Unclaimed items will be kept for a period of one week before being disposed.
  14. Diaper Policy: For your safety, all infants and toddlers who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper with protective pants over them to enter the kiddie pool. No diapers are permitted in the main pool or diving area. If you need a swim diaper, you can purchase one at the swimming pool office or snack bar.
  15. 14. Adult Swim: During peak hours (to be determined by the pool staff); there will be a 10 minute Adult Swim each hour. Any child under the age of 16 will not be permitted in the main pool or diving pool for 10 minutes. This will give all children the opportunity to use the restrooms and take a short break from swimming.
VI. Conduct/Disciplinary Action

  1. All persons using the pool are required to follow the instructions and directions of the Pool Director and Lifeguards.
  2. Members are responsible for and will be held accountable for the actions of their children and guests.
  3. Any adult or child who does not comply with the pool Rules and Regulations will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including suspension of pool privileges. 
  4. The lifeguards are instructed to send individuals away from the pool who fail to obey their instructions. Repeated violations, especially those in regard to general safety or vandalism are cause for suspension of privileges. When necessary the Pool Director may refer the matter to the Athletic Chairman for discussion and if required, a hearing.
  5. Any act of vandalism, especially in regard to the bathrooms, locker and shower areas are a serious violation, and shall be referred to the Pool Chairperson and Athletic Chairperson for action. Parents or guardians have the primary responsibility for the behavior of the children in these areas, and will incur any costs necessary for repairs resulting from acts of vandalism.
  6. Children and adults utilizing the snack bar area, including the bathrooms, lockers and showers, must towel dry to alleviate the accumulation of standing water on the floors which contributes to an unsafe and slippery environment.
  7. Running, pushing or other behavior to lessen the enjoyment of other Members is not permitted anywhere in the pool area. 
     
VII. Pool use by young children under the age of 13

  1. Parents are required to provide proper supervision for their children and guests utilizing the pool facility. Children may not be “dropped off” and left unattended.
  2. Children under the age of ten (10) must be accompanied by a parent or a person age fourteen (14) or older, designated by their parent as having responsibility for the child’s conduct and safety in the pool area, snack bar and locker rooms. An individual other than the parent responsible for the supervision of a child must report to the Lifeguard’s Table and sign in.
  3. Children under ten (10) must be accompanied in the pool by a responsible person, age fourteen (14) or older, unless they can demonstrate their ability to swim the width of the pool.
  4. No child will be allowed beyond the three (3) foot end of the main swimming pool unless they can adequately demonstrate their ability to swim twenty-five (25) meters, the length of the pool.
VIII. Diving Pool Regulations:

  1. Only one person at a time is permitted on a diving board. 
  2. Diving or jumping at angles away from the board is not permitted.
  3. No diver may dive off the boards until the diving area is clear of the previous diver.
  4. Swimming under the diving boards or hanging on the boards is not permitted. 
  5. Each person using the diving board shall limit his or her pre-dive activity to two bounces and then dive immediately into the pool.
  6. The use of the three (3) meter board, the “high dive board”, is limited to persons eleven (11) years of age and older.
  7. Once a person has finished diving off the board, they should clear the area beneath or in front of the diving board as soon as possible by promptly swimming to the nearest ladder.
  8. During Shorehaven Diving Team Practices, the Diving Pool shall be closed from use by the general membership. Only Diving Team Members shall be permitted to use the diving boards and diving pool during Diving Team practices.
IX. Guests:

  1. Members must register their guests with the Pool Director upon arrival by signing them in the Guest Book located at the snack bar entrance to the pool deck.
  2. Only those Members whose category of membership permits guests may introduce guests to the pool area.
  3. Guests may be introduced not more than a total of ten (10) times per year, with the exception of House Guests. House Guests introduced in writing by a Member must be approved by the Board of Directors and are limited to a period of two weeks.
  4. Babysitters (au pairs) employed by a Member must be registered at the pool for a seasonal guest fee established by the Board of Directors.
  5. Guest fees for the pool are as follows:
    1. Adults $10
    2. Children $7 (12 years and under) 
    3. Au Pairs $75 (charge for the season)
X. Parties at the Pool:
  1. Requests for pool parties must be made in writing to the General Manager and Athletics Chairman.
  2. Pool Parties are permitted at the discretion of the General Manager and Athletics Chairman. Appropriate guest fees will be assessed for each individual. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests.
